On March 16, 2019, IMBiH Ambassadors Vanessa Moro and Nerina Sivonjic attended “Tea and Talk,” an event sponsored by the Yugoslav Nationality Room committee and held at the University of Pittsburgh.
The “talk” portion of the event profiled Melita Gardner, author of Girl Divided, a historical memoir and coming-of-age story that chronicles Gardner’s journey from Croatia to the United States in the wake of World War II, and Natasha Garrett, author of Motherland, the story of Garrett’s relocation from Macedonia to the United States and her exploration of what it means to become “American” and navigate languages, cultures, and identities. The authors’ presentations were followed by an engaging Q&A session and, true to the event’s name, attendees were treated to tea, coffee, and desserts as they continued more informal conversations with the authors and other attendees at the event’s close.
